The dark and stormy night had caught Mathoss off guard. He was making his way with speed through the woods getting rained on becoming soaked as he was only in training clothes. He soon made it to a cozy looking cabin that was surrounded with various gardens, Mathoss knew this cabin because he had been to it before. It was the home of his longtime girlfriend Estella and her family.
Mathoss went to the door and knocked.
A few moments later a auburn hair woman with in her late 40s early 50s answered the door. She blinked and gasped "Mathoss."
"Hey Mrs. H." Mathoss greeted with a cat grin "uh can a cool cat get out of the rain?"
"oh yes yes, Estella!" Mrs. Halos called "Get a towel and a blanket, Mathoss got caught in the storm." She looked back at the silver hair young man "Oh you bad cat, you know you're supposed to wear a jacket when it's gonna storm." She scolded like a mother would a child
"I know, I know." Mathoss stated as he came in "I didn't think things were going to get so bad so fast..." He closed the door
Estella came into the entrance room with both a large towel and a blanket "Hey coolcat," She teased "what are you doing getting wet. You knows cats hate water."
Mathoss grinned at his girlfriend "you know I only get wet so you can dry me while we cuddle."
Estella gasped as a blush grew on her cheeks "Mathoss..." She tilted her head towards her mother as if saying he wasn't supposed to make suggestive comments in front of her.
Mrs. H giggled at this "oh don't fret dear, the wiles of a cat are usually their best way to charm people and if any cat gonna charm my daughter, I would rather have it be a honorable one like Mathoss"
Estella blushed even deeper "Mom..."
Both Mathoss and Mrs. H let out some laughter.
"what's all the laughter downstairs." A male voice called as Estella's father, a man with red hair and Irish Descent came down, "ah Mathoss, got caught in the storm aye."
"aye," Mathoss stated "indeed I did Mr. H." He took the towel and started to dry himself "you don't mind if I curl up here until it passes."
"not at all my boy." Mr. H stated "but there's more to tonight then just a storm." He hummed "I fear something bad is going to happen..."
As if to confirm the Estella father's suspicions, an loud explosion noise engulfed the night shaking the cabin.
Mathoss made a cat noise as his feral mode triggered out of fear and he became tense with everything on end or extended.
Estella became frightened and clung to her mother who held her while her Father turned protective
The storm seemed to make an echoing thunder noise as if it was responding to the explosion.
About a few moments later, Estella made short breaths trying to calm herself.
Mathoss made a face as he relaxed his tense form "damn lightning..." He cursed as he shook his head and smoothed down his hair "drives me up the wall sometimes."
Estella's father hummed "that wasn't lightning." He muttered then hummed as he went over to the wooden wall and placed his hands on it. "Life of the earth, hear my request," he chanted "show me a vision of what disturbed our nest."
The house seemed to shimmer as a pulse went out from Mr. H's hands and just as soon came back because of being in tune with nature. The Heliot clan could use the earth like a massive communication network and with the right spell they could receive information of surrounding areas via visions
Estella's father received the vision then grunted in seriousness "there has been an explosion in town." He stated "it is the town bar. Fire is consuming it and the surrounding area."
Estella gasped "oh my."
Mathoss grunted "is the fire brigade on their way."
"I didn't see them in my vision." Estella's father stated "but I would surmise they are. If we heard that explosion I'm sure the rest of the town did as well."
Mathoss grunted "I better get over there."
"don't bother my boy." Estella's father muttered "from what I saw... no one mortal could have survived that unless they used a spell in time beside's I believe your father is on duty tonight aye"
"aye..." Mathoss exhaled "I wonder if that Speyer guy is alright... fire magic is his thing so..."
Estella's father hummed "I do not know."
A phone ringing was heard
Estella's mother went over to a phone and picked it up "Halos residence..." She hummed as she listened "Yes, Yuki he's here and we're all fine thank you for asking." She hummed as listened "yes, my husband had a vision of it just after it happened. I fear that whoever was inside did not make it" She hummed "I'm sure he's doing what he can. Do you want me to send Mathoss home." She hummed again "alright if you are sure you're fine..." She hummed "yes, we'll talk more later. Goodbye." she hung up
Mathoss hummed "that my mom?"
Estella's mother nodded "she was making sure of your whereabouts and if we were fine as well." She hummed "your father was on duty when he heard the explosion and wanted to make sure both you and your mother were safe and your mother extended that concern to our family. She'll call him to let him know
Mathoss hummed and he sighed "well Mr. H, there's your more then the storm."
"Aye lad indeed..." Estella's father stated "but call it what you want but I fear what's happened tonight is just the beginning... ever since that beacon triggered..." He hummed "does your mother still have that plant we sent her."
Mathoss gave a nod "she takes very good care of it."
"good, with that plant your home should be generally protected but even our magic is beatable with the right counters and enchantments. If it withers quickly, get out immediately and run because the magic that made it wither..."
Mathoss hummed as he nodded "is a lot more then anything my family could handle."
"aye, run here if you wish for protection, our families will soon be joined anyhow... already I feel I should call you son."
"Dad..." Estelle whined
"is it not true." Mr. H asked quickly "Has the years of courting not made it clear that you two are in love. Surely you will join together"
"Yes... but..." Estelle stated "for us to actually join... it is unheard of..."
"unheard of yes." Mr. H stated "but I would be a bad father and a dishonorable man if I denied the hand of my daughter into the hand of her protector and guardian especially since there is signs of attraction between the two yes?"
"you got me there Mr. H." Mathoss stated "your daughter makes me purr." He purred playfully
"Mathoss!" Estella moaned as a deep blush crossed her face causing all to laugh but her.
