Fate is something not a lot of people believed in some do but well not as many these days. You probably didn’t even believe in it either that was until one fateful day you defied it. The day had started simple; it was like any other day at least at first it was. As the day went on well it got maybe just a little bit weird you began getting signs odd signs. These signs, maybe it was a song that had a certain theme or maybe something in the background you noticed as you were going about your day. Only it began escalating from there as a cold wind in a place where they should be no wind at all. A shadow that dashes off the second you notice it. That or maybe it was just an unnaturally feeling of dread. Hey, maybe it was something as simple as someone saying something that may have put you on edge for a moment.
Whatever these signs were you brushed them off and went about the day you had planned. Then it happened. Then the signs returned and what followed all begun making sense. A tragic accident. One that would lead you and several others dead. One by one, your strangers, maybe friends or family killed off one by one and then you were next. Then it was all over for you well it should have been.
You were brought maybe it was just a minute or two before the accident maybe less but you were certainly capable of freaking out and making a scene. One that had saved the lives of you and those around you as it appeared you had changed fate not just your own but others. A few months went by most the people returned to their lives, fate wasn’t done with you, however. The event had changed you something was different now. Death got cheated, and it does not like being cheated. An invitation arrives for you in an envelope. The instructions on the inside were simple directions to a night club. Enter the red door on a specific street at a certain time while carrying this envelope. Originally you wouldn’t have been too concerned about a letter in an envelope, the second you touched it that same familiar feeling of dread suddenly came over you before even opening it. Now, most the recipients of these letters throw them away and maybe you were going to as well but the last bit that was well it gave you the incentive you would need. ‘Show up unless you want that twist of fate you pulled to be undone and trust me this time you won’t see it coming.” It could’ve been a nasty prank, but something that feeling of dread the feeling that told you the second you touched that envelope it wasn’t just you in the room made it very clear to you this was legit.
The day for your attendance came finding the red door was easy. The second you open the door, the ambiance changes. The room you enter is candle lite it seems to be a club. Sadly it isn’t the fun night club but a much more mellow type of club. The kind that rich fancy, sophisticated people would go for cocktails fine dining and piano music. Every table is dressed with a rather gothic and grim decore one would expect to find roses here, but no there were no roses only lilies sat in skull vases as the centerpiece of each table. The final thing on the tables and the most relevant were little folded up pieces of papers with different names on dates. The names seem irrelevant to you I mean you don’t know any anyone by these names and the dates mean nothing to you. Although the second you find your name at a table, it all makes sense to you. The date on your card was the very date you had your vision the date you should’ve died. Uncomfortable now you contemplate leaving looking towards the exit the very same door that was also your entrance flings open another person walks in eyeing you suspiciously. Then another and another all these people wearing different outfits, a mixture of different cultures seemed to be occurring.
They were finding their names on little pieces of paper just like you did. None of them looks happy about this; in fact, you are pretty sure most of them have the same look you did on your face when you laid eyes on the date written on the paper. Those dates meant something to every person in that room. A spotlight shines down, highlighting the bar to the left of the room a single man in black glasses staring at the group and while mixing drinks. Dressed rather fancily, one could tell the way his outfit was tucked in and the fabric of his uniform he worked for this establishment. At the end of the room was a stage. Blood red curtains are hiding what was on it from the view of the confused people. A cold wind blows through the room candlelight dancing in the breeze as the curtains part revealing a man and a woman. Any effort anyone makes to talk to the man seems to be ignored rather rude really, but one had to admit his talent was professional. As in a matter of seconds, cocktails made for those who had arrived. “Take your assigned seats…” muttered the bartender as he began delivering a cocktail to each table. Other than the behavior of the bartender. You noticed a few of the confused guests had accents yet spoke your language perfectly. Any attempt to argue or question the bartender further resulted in the person somehow being compelled to take their seat just as instructed.
When everyone had finally taken a seat some by choice some not by choice, the show got started the curtains opened, revealing a silhouette stood on stage. Too dark to see any details until the spotlight swiveled from the bar and now it was casting light across stage brilliantly. The figure revealed to be a rather dapper looking gentlemen aged yet handsome one could say a silver fox. He was certainly well dressed looked like he came from wealth a lot of its hell even had a top hat a damn fine top hat plus a cane with a little skull on the top of it. “These are the ones?” he muttered twirling a cane and tipping his top hat ever the gentlemen. The gentlemen grinned like a cat that was about to toy with its prey. One of the ‘guests’ were becoming rather enraged by this and went to get up, only for the man to point his cane at him. “Sit down and shut up…” he commanded, and the person did rage from their face vanishing in an instant. “Now, now anyone else want to get up?” he asked, looking amused at the bewildered faces in the room. When no one said anything, he chuckled before getting back to speaking. “Good, good, now I bet you are all wondering why you are here?” he said when suddenly the spotlight shuts off the man vanishing into the darkness only to suddenly reappear sat on another one of the guests' table peering at them with a grin. After all, barely any seconds had past how could the man get their so quick without her even noticing him making his way over? “Ah, my gal see you lot all have something in common you all owe me,” he stated.
As another guest got out their seat and went to interrupt, the man raised one finger “shush now!” he commanded the guest going to speak only for no sound to come out their voice. “Right now you are in my domain, welcome to my crimson longue,” said the man vanishing once more only to appear behind the guest that was now trying to speak. Suddenly the gentlemen planted his hands down on the man's shoulders forcing him back down. “Sit still until I am done that goes for all of you,” he commanded. Just like that, you felt a force compelling you to sit in that seat hell if the place were on fire, you would still be glued to the sit. The man vanishing once more a spotlight would return to the stage only now a woman in a red cocktail dress was on stage. “This should be more pleasing to the male's eyes hopefully this will keep them from interrupting me now,” the woman said giggling in amusement as the room had a mixture of terrified confused faces in it. “Right let us get down to business,” The woman said as she snapped her fingers the top hat of the gentlemen appearing next to her. “You all owe me, see you lot are a rare case an extremely rare case see you lot should be by rights be dead and yet you dare to carry on living” she stated tipping the top hat as a list would fall out of it. Names dates were read out, and then every person was supposed to die each person face in the room growing grimmer, realizing that their deaths that woman was describing were from visions each one of them had experienced. A sinister smile on the woman's face as she wagged her fingers at the group.
“Wow what ways to go, I mean really, those are some of my best work, and it has all gone to waste,” she stated. Folding her arms and not looking happy at all, she would vanish the gentlemen reappearing in her place. “Plus let us not get started on the list of people who you saved all those lives that should be extinguished just walking around and affecting the lives of people who should be here” the man huffed his expression now a rather displeased frown. The man pulled his cane out his top hat before planting it back on his head. “So let view the position this puts me in. I can take option ‘A’ mend the damage that you lot have done and trust me that would be one hell of a party” he chuckled. “That or option ‘B’ you lot can work for me and help mend the damage you lot have done.” A young lady raised her hand, the gentlemen smiling and waving his hand at her. “You may speak, you have manners unlike the oafs over there,” said the man giving the two males who had to have a little persuasion a dirty look. “Basically what you are saying is option ‘A’ is you kill us and go after the people we saved,” the young lady said earning her a wink and smile from the gentlemen.
“Oh my, you are the smart one do tell me though who am I?” he asked. “Supernatural powers, omnipotence I am going to say a Shinigami?” she stated. Noticing the confused look on a few peoples faces, she frowned “A god of death…so literally death” she stated simplifying things for those around her.
“Bingo! Everybody applaud the young lady!” The man commanded with a twirl and a point of his cane and just like that the room erupted in the sound of clapping hands. After the man had his fun, he snapped his fingers, making the room fall into silence. He then gestured for the young lady to speak once more. “Option ‘B’ is we help you clean up the mess, but that would involve killing the people we saved and then the list would get down to us” The young lady pointed out seeming almost proud at the fact she had figured everything out. Noticing the look on her faces made him chuckle. “Foolish mortals, you are so insignificant, yet you assume you have all the answers” stated the man making the young lady scowl at him. “I will put this in simple terms. Imagine a computer you lot living and saving those lives is the equivalent of scratching the case. An issue that is not a big deal, to be honest, it is easily ignored” he explained before once again vanishing.
The woman in a red dress appearing sprawled out across the cocktail bar. “The true issue honey that is internal see when you lot changed the grand scheme of things it caused a ripple one that has allowed all manners of nasty to escape into the mortal realm” the lady explained while the bartender handed her a fresh cocktail. Taking a sip of a mighty fine tasty cocktail, she would smile popping an olive in her mouth. “See death he, she, we, I at the end of the day we cannot harm something that is well already dead” she explained flashing the guys and girls in the room a wink. “That is where you come in my little darlings, you and I got a special connection,” she said toying with her hair she would look eyes with one of the nervous males in the room licking her lips rather suggestible. Smirking at the man she points at him “especially you sugar I just adore that cute little face cannot wait till I get to wear it one day” she teased. The man nervously averted his eyes from hers. He was terrified. “So my little darlings option ‘B’ is simple work for me and using my little club where we can go around the world collecting the nasties before they kill anyone who isn’t supposed to die.” The woman vanished as the gentlemen appeared on stage. “That and as long as you are in my services, I promise not to kill any of you or the people you saved,” the gentlemen stated.
“Those that accept my offer drink the cocktail we have prepared for you those that don’t are welcome to leave” The man stated. Almost everyone had drunk the cocktails, including yourself something changed something dormant awakening inside. You would’ve had asked death about this but well one fool that didn’t drink the cocktail was busy storming up to the stage tossing his drink at the gentlemen now on it. “…oh bother there is always one” the gentlemen muttered before teaching the ever so rude and vile guest a lesson. One that no one would forget. “You didn’t even have the brains to leave my domain before attempting to rebel how cute well I will have fun with your family but as for you” The gentlemen twirled his cane before pointing it at the man. In an instant, it was over for the man “Aneurysms are a real bitch…” the gentlemen chuckled before looking at his living guests. “So shall we get started?” he asked them with a wicked grin.
